New Disciples blog

Posted by Rebecca on June 24, 2008

Rev. Linda Hunsaker is the pastor at Ursa Christian Church in Ursa, Ill. Linda has taken her passion for worship design to the web, with her new blog, Creative Disciples Worship.

It’s a great place to share ideas and musings on all styles of worship - traditional, contemporary, emergent, and so on. So go on…check it out.

And keep Linda and her flock in your prayers. They are very close to the mighty Mississippi and the flood waters were rising Sunday as she was preparing for worship. She posts some interesting thoughts about that in her latest blog entry.

Tanya Tyler’s Punchbuggy blog

Posted by Rebecca on March 12, 2008

New blog alert! Tanya Tyler, a talented contributing writer for DisciplesWorld who lives in Lexington, works for the Herald-Leader, is a graduate of Lexington Theological Seminary, and is a part-time pastor… has added another ‘hat’ to her collection. She’s now a blogger.

Tanya’s Punchbuggy blog is part of the BluegrassMoms.com site. Her most recent post, “It’s Perfectly Biblical” begins this way:

Is your young adult child driving you crazy?

Go ahead and stone him.

As the mom of a young adult son, she had me at “driving you crazy.”

New blog - “Ponderings”

Posted by Rebecca on February 16, 2008

We’ve added a new blog to our Disciples blogroll - “Ponderings,” written by Rev. John Park Winkler, a graduate of Georgia Tech and Lexington Theological Seminary who recently finished an interim ministry position in Ankeny, Iowa.

I like this entry from John’s blog, from last year. It’s an interesting reminder in this time of ‘doing less’ (Lent) that maybe what we really need is to do more - of what we’re passionate about.

Years ago, Dr. Dwight Stevenson, Dean at Lexington Theological Seminary, suggested to the seminary students a very simple solution to the problem of burnout. His solution was paradoxical and counter –intuitive. Nevertheless, it works.

“When you feel overwhelmed and it seems like you will never be able to get out from under the stress,” he said, “begin a brand new activity. make it something that you are interested in and have a passion but for doing and can do for the joy of the activity. Adding it to your schedule, will give you the energy and motivation you need to accomplish the important things that are making you feel overwhelmed.” Read more here…

UCC launches new blog

Posted by Rebecca on September 27, 2007

The United Church of Christ announced on Sept. 26 the launch of a new blog to highlight congregational news and to facilitate discussion of social justice issues.

The Rev. Chuck Currie, a longtime UCC blogger and progressive writer, is maintaining the new blog. Currie, a UCC pastor and advocate for the homeless, has been blogging for a while now.  We look forward to this addition to the UCC’s news coverage.

One post of note — a young woman from Chicago who went missing recently is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, one of the UCC’s largest congregations. Trinity is asking for prayers as police search for clues in the disappearance of 28-year-old Nailah Franklin, whose car was found abandoned in Hammond, Indiana earlier this week.
