Some of you may have gotten to hear Bernice Johnson Reagon when she gave a concert with Carrie Newcomer and Holly Near during Mix in ’06, the Disciples of Christ/United Church of Christ women’s conference in Indianapolis in 2006. Johnson Reagon founded the group Sweet Honey in the Rock. She retired from the group in 2004, but continues to travel and perform, and describes herself as a “songtalker.”

Jeff Gill, a Disciples preacher and storyteller himself, writes the Notes from My Knapsack blog (and lots of other stuff), and he interviewed Johnson Reagon for an article on Denison University’s website. She’ll be the keynote speaker there on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Read Jeff’s article, “The Power of Voice,” here.

And speaking of Jeff’s blog, if you’re a fan of Garrison Keillor and Prairie Home Companion, you’ll love his latest post.
