Rupert Boneham, of Survivor fame

Remember Rupert, the lovably scruffy, barrel-chested, tie-dyed ”Survivor: Pearl Islands” contestant? He later appeared on ‘‘Survivor All-Stars” and won $1million, even though he placed 4th on that show, when viewers were allowed to choose a favorite contestant.

Rupert used his money to pay off his mother’s debts and fund his daughter’s college education. He bought a home, and he donated a large sum of his winnings to Rupert’s Kids, an organization that helps troubled teens — a passion of his for more than 25 years.

This Saturday, Rupert will be the keynote speaker at the Peace Learning Center’s Martin Luther King Jr. weekend events, to be held at Disciples-related Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. The events are free and open to the public.
